The TRUTH about homelessness.

Homelessness looks different these days. Check out the statistics below and see why this project MUST happen.

Stanislaus County has a bed deficit for homeless women and women with children.

The demographic of homelessness has changed in Stanislaus County over the last three years. Can you guess what percentage of the homeless population comprises youth under 18 years of age?

What percentage is made up of women women?

The numbers are glaring.

According to the Stanislaus County “Point in Time” count data, adult women make up a shocking

41.3%

of the homeless population in Stanislaus County.

Youth under 18 years of age account for

19.1%

Of the homeless population in Stanislaus County*

Stanislaus County has a drastic lack of shelter bed inventory for these most vulnerable members of the homeless community, including here at the Modesto Gospel Mission, where over the last few years we have had to resort to placing cots in our shelter living room or allowing women and children to sleep on the floor of our chapel.

Of the 210 shelter beds at the Modesto Gospel Mission, 79% are men’s shelter beds, with only 21% being allocated for women and children. This is an unfortunate byproduct of outdated gender ratios. Our region’s needs have changed, and we are working diligently to address these issues.
